ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Key features of BGE Competition

2nd Term 2023/24 Academic Year

Engagement

The programme is open to students at school (not higher education) who are enrolled in S1-S3 who have an interest in the law, engineering, science, environment and/or public speaking.

Passion

The Organising Team is substantial, made up of educators and legal professionals dedicated in the belief of advanced education for all through the use of the law and the importance of the independence of the judiciary.

Design

Teams will work with their subject teachers to build their case and thereafter compete against students within their schools (intermediaries) before the top teams compete in a real court environment.

Support

While the local authority and the School Mock Court Case Project will provide additional support, most support will come from within the school and subject teachers, each adding an element to the overall case.

Don't Raise Your Voice, Improve Your Argument - Desmond Tutu

Human rights, the rights of individuals, minority rights .... equality. The power of the human voice is amplified when channeled correctly.

The law is not there only for the elite or privileged. It is not exclusively centered around the corporate world, but affects the lives of everyone, designed by our law makers and politicians to protect people, property and freedoms. One can use the law to enshrine rights and obligations, but equally one can move to have a law changed, as time changes.

The rule of law is about openness, fairness; coupled with accountability and transparency by our governments and judicial institutions with no person or body being above the law.

The Programme seeks to refine the skills students are learning through their schooling and develop their interest in not only the law and society, but the very subject they are studying. By running an evidential case, the students will need call upon their skills, abilities and understanding of each of the subject matters.
